Animal Photos

Animal Pictures Archive The first thing to to catch my eye at this site was their apology for their banner ads...which gave me some idea of what they are all about. Most of the images are from newsgroups, especially from alt.binaries.pictures.animals. This collection is immense, spanning ancient animal art to zoo animals. Under "Romper" I found Samoyed dogs, African wild dogs and silkworms. I even found 8 hedgehog photos (Euro and African) - always a good test of depth. These people are looking for help to make this site even better. (PS, if it helps, you can also view this site in Korean). In addition to photos, you can also find clip art, sounds, animated gifs, and movies.

Born Free Foundation - This is the Born Free Foundation's wildlife photo page. What you get is a selection of pictures of wild and rescued animals held by Born Free - which means great composition and PBS celebs at their best. Check out Jenny the Elephant and Salaam the Lion.

Beautyworlds - This site "focusses on aspects of beauty in Nature and different cultures"(sic), including the anxieties that it provokes. They do have a few unusual shots such as an albino wallaby and a leopard seal. They even have a "Beauty, Feathers, Fur, and Fashion" page devoted to ex-animals. Smithsonian National Zoological Park - With a name like that you can trust that these guys know what they're doing. There are black-tailed prairie dogs, scimitar horned oryx, Hsing-Hsing the panda, to Przewalski's wild horse. As a bonus you get a little background on the animal you're looking at. Wild Animal Photography - These are stock photos by Dave Rowley presented in this royalty-free format for you to enjoy. They are organized by species (bears, elk, rabbits, antelope, whales, wild horses, wild turkeys, toucans, hawks, moose, sea lions, geese, big horned sheep, buffalo, ducks and so on). This site is just so cheerfully into it's subject that I was surprised to find out that Dave is no longer with us. Just the best jack-rabbit pictures that I've ever seen.
